Mystical Wings was an entry for the 'Off the Map 2013' competition, which was run collaboratively by The British Library, Crytek and GameCity. Teams needed to choose one from a selection of maps provided by The British Library and draw inspiration from it to create something using CryEngine 3.
It is a first-person puzzle game based in Stonehenge, where the player controls a 6" faerie exploring the ruins of the ancient monument. It features a huge environment filled with stylised art assets, a working Scaleform menu screen and cutscenes.
The game starts with an introduction scene showing Stonehenge restored, as seen on The British Library's map provided to us. When the scene has finished the player can explore the environment in it's destroyed state, navigating through puzzles to find the source of the destruction.
I was the project leader, working in all areas of its production, including the initial design and concept pieces. I was also responsible for constructing the level scenes in engine and creating many of the game's art assets.
Mystical Wings came runner up in the competition after being short-listed to the final three.
